my story

WHY I BECAME A PHOTOGRAPHER

I got bit by the photography bug when I was really young. I still remember starting out using my hot pink 110 film camera to take countless amounts of  photos of clouds and basset hounds. I hate to think of the amount of money my parents must have spent on developing roll after roll of film from that camera. 🙂

I fell even more in love with photography in high school and decided I wanted to make a career of it. In 2005 I graduated from The Ohio Institute of Photographery & Technology with a degree in both Commercial & Portrait photography. On top of the great experience & education I gained from OIP&T, it is also where I met my husband, Dan (who currently works as a commercial photographer for Cook Medical)! We live in Avon, Indiana with our two incredibly cute redheads, Millie (10) and Finn (7), and our crazy basset hounds, Duncan & Mabel.

Getting the opportunity to photograph so many wonderful people and capture so many memories over the past 18 years has been amazing. I am beyond thankful that I get to have a job that I love so much!

my journey

YEAR BY YEAR

2005

GRADUATED FROM PHOTOGRAPHY SCHOOL!

I’m so proud of my accomplishments at the Ohio Institute of photography and Technology. I made so many friends and worked so hard learning all I could about photography. We started off learning on film but everything was switching to digital by the time I graduated. I even won outstanding portfolio and outstanding graduate during my graduation ceremony!

2011

GOT MARRIED!

Even though Dan and I met at the end of 2004, it took us a while to actually get engaged and married (two photographers just out of college trying to make money is no joke!). I started planning a big wedding but got incredibly overwhelmed and cut all of our plans. We ended up having a super small ceremony with a dinner & cupcakes after. My dress was around $25 from H&M,  we only invited 13 people and I couldn’t be happier with how perfect it was!

2013

MILLIE WAS BORN!

Our sweet Millie was born on August 15th, 2013. I absolutely hated being pregnant but she was worth all of the migraines and morning (more like all-day) sickness. We were so surprised she was a little red-head! I’ve been smitten with her sweet little face since day one of meeting her.

2016

FINN WAS BORN!

Our second little red-head (also another shocker!), Finn, was born June 2nd, 2016. I was so scared to have a boy. Millie had been a dream and I knew boys were trouble. 😉 ha! He ended up being just as amazing as Millie was though. I think having easy babies was my reward for having such horrible pregnancies!

fun facts

ABOUT ME

IF I WASN´T A PHOTOGRAPHER..

I’d be a special needs teacher. I’ve had a love for helping kids since I was in the 6th grade. When deciding what to study in college, it came down to photography or a special needs teacher. Thankfully with my photography career I am still able to use some of my time to substitute in special needs classrooms!

MUSIC

I am a huge music lover. Some of my favorite bands/musicians are Snow Patrol, Matt Wertz, Lizzy McAlpine, Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Eat World, Silverchair and Jason Mraz.  I’ve lost count of all the concerts I’ve attended over the years.

I´M MOST THANKFUL FOR...

My family! If there was some kind of lottery when having kids, I’d say Dan and I won after having Millie & Finn. They are seriously two of the best kids around. On top of keeping us laughing every day, they are friends to everyone they meet, helpful and so incredibly kind.

FAVORITES

I have an unhealthy love for french fries and fountain Diet Coke. If I’m having a bad day, there’s a 99% chance those two things can turn it right around!

BASSET HOUNDS

I am obsessed with basset hounds. They are the only dog I’ve ever owned! We currently have Duncan (10 years old) and Mabel (3 years old). My past bassets who I still miss every single day were JB, Scooter, Olive, Otis & Penny.

MACRO PHOTOPGRAPHY

When I’m not taking pictures of people, I love doing macro photography. The closer up, the better. I love creating art out of something small. Flowers and snowflakes are two of my favorites to photograph.
